Reed (1839-93) chronicled her life in Anderson, South Carolina from the age of 25 through 27, beginning just as the Civil War ended and extending through the period of unprecedented adjustment before the Radical Reconstruction began in March 1867. With paper and money in short supply, she wrote across an old school workbook in crosshatch style, which took Oliver (history, Coastal Carolina U.) considerable time to decipher and transcribe.
