Reseña del editor:
Here is a directory that should help the technical service department in any library find a multitude of helpful professional resources quickly and inexpensively - resources that could cost thousands of dollars or require time-consuming calls or visits to other libraries to obtain. The guide provides information about hundreds of home pages, and is divided into three sections. Part 1, "Acquisitions", lists the best publisher and vendor home pages; conservation, and gifts and exchange home pages; and library acquisitions department pages. These can offer help with price and other information checks, ordering and claiming, book repair and preservation, getting leads on book and equipment donations, finding a wide range of bibliographies and using forms online. Part 2, "Cataloguing", offers information on everything from linking to frequently used library catalogues around the world to obtaining classification and indexing information, and learning about authority control and all types of MARC documentation. Sections here are also devoted to cataloguing Internet resources, foreign publications, computer files, foreign languages, legal, medical and nonprint materials, music and serials. Part 3, "General Home Pages", covers the best organized and most informative of these sources of problem-solving tips and news about current issues. Each listing includes a current URL address and a detailed annotation explaining what is unique or best about each site. Also included are over 40 screen captures of home pages discussed, an index, and listing for archives of discussion lists, listservs, table of contents sites, and documentation resources.
