Mohandas K Gandhi is one of the most inspiring figures of our time. In his classic autobiography he recounts the story of his life and how he developed his concept of active nonviolent resistance, which propelled the Indian struggle for independence and countless other nonviolent struggles of the twentieth century.
Gandhi was 56 when the book appeared and he lived what he preached for another 23 years, through triumph and tragedy. As every reader will discover, his autobiography is not the usual conventional narrative. It is a reflection, a confession and above all, a critical self-examination of himself and his ideas. Gandhi remains and will remain a visionary for all times.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Novelist and editor, M.G. Vassanji was born in Nairobi, Kenya and raised in the East African Indian community in Tanzania. His works have received much acclaim including the 2009 Governor General's Award for Non-Fiction for A Place Within: Rediscovering India, two Giller Prizes for The Book of Secrets and The In-Between World of Vikram Lall and a Commonwealth Writer's Prize for The Gunny Sack. In 2005 he was made a Member of the Order of Canada. M.G. Vassanji lives in Toronto with his family.
