A professional goalie relies on a mysteriously powerful face mask that somehow improves his game. A small town pits itself against a neighbouring village in an all-out, no-holds-barred contest of home-town solidarity. A middle-aged woman discovers more about herself through women’s recreational hockey.

In this anthology of hockey prose-both fiction and non-fiction – twenty-two literary masters offer their insights on what makes hockey "the best game you can name."
