This amazing work allows us to delve deep into a retrospective view of how the African American athlete was handled in practically every HBCU during a season and a time when the masses were in denial about the climatic effects on their lives. Dr. Jarvis’s accomplished work engrafted as part of his doctoral dissertation lends to the ear of the learned and unlearned. Many will see this work as an eye opener while others view it as a final means to an end in providing a candid view to truth concerning a possible turnaround in how athletes are treated differently in this century. This book makes one want to have a roundtable discussion to encourage the athletes of today while applauding those from yesteryear who were victims of this cycle of abuse. As we transform a nation, we must work backwards to heal as we move forward to restore. I applaud Dr. Jarvis for his tenacity in “getting the word out” to those who have the spirit to hear!
