Inhaltsangabe

Science Education is one of the great keys to human progress. The series "Basic Books in Science" brings basic knowledge of science within the reach of everyone. Every Book covers in some depth a well defined area, starting from the very beginning and leading up to university entrance level. Printed copies of each Book are available at low cost. This book builds on the foundations laid in Book 1 ("Number and symbols") and in Book 2 ("Space")} and deals with the mathematics we need in describing the relationships among the quantities we measure in Physics and the Physical Sciences in general. This leads us into the study of relationships and change, the starting point for Mathematical Analysis and the Calculus - which are needed in all branches of Science. Contents 1. Relationships between quantities 2. Calculus - what's it all about? 3. Some standard derivatives and integrals 4. Integrals - and ways of getting them 5. Power series, convergence, and Taylor's theorem 6. A quick look at some things you'll need later
