Beginning with "Aly Rutherford and the Ancients," and continuing with "Aly Rutherford and the Ancient Springs," the third book resumes with Aly’s persistent search for her mom who is trapped inside a marble disc. She’ll tell you that her inherited job of protecting the world from evil is way too much for a nine year old but her courage, determination, and bravery saved Elsa from the evil shape shifter in Book Two. Now both her parents are locked inside marble disks. What else could go wrong? The group of kids known as The Seven has grown and it seems more unmanageable than ever! At any point will they be able to work together? And will Dylan and Nicholas stick with them? Even though they aren’t actually members they always seem to be around when there is evil to fight. Aly is aware that the fighting evil part is way too much for this bunch of nine-year-olds. It’s a good thing she is brave and smart, although she wouldn’t say the same thing about Dave and Elsa. At least, Aly is armed, she hopes, with Dylan and Nicholas, her two best friends. In Book Three, Aly meets two new members of the Seven, a pair of twins from Australia. She’s still not sure about them although they at least realize what being a member of the Seven entails. As the group encounters new tunnels, doors that won’t open, a hermit who is some how a part of all this MESS and mysterious scratch marks on the tunnel walls, Aly’s main quest, getting her parents back, is her main focus. Too bad evil has other plans.
