World War III as well as the struggle for liberty in North America has reached a significant crossroads. While the regime in Denver continues to control large swaths of the empire, rebel forces have gained more ground. After spending three months battling federal government and UN forces in Seattle, Jake and his fellow freedom fighters return to Kamloops. Various rebel factions scattered throughout liberated regions of the continent, known as 'Free North America', collaborate and decide to accept help from the Kremlin in the form of training and equipment. At first skeptical of this olive branch, Jake comes to see the Russians as strong allies of the poorly-trained and underequipped embattled insurgent armies. Meanwhile, in southeastern Missouri, a tiny band of rebels launches a guerrilla campaign against North American Army forces posted in the area in a desperate bid to free bridges crossing the Mississippi River.
