Written by an investor, not a celebrity's ghost writer. In 12 easy digestible chapters, this book covers what to look for in buying your next home, whether it is a flat or a house. A good home should also make a good property investment. This book should empower you to value the property you want, yourself, without relying on estate agents, and to understand how the system works in England and Wales. It explains about how to work out what you can afford, getting a mortgage and options for first time buyers. This book gives advice on bidding, negotiating, gazumping, hidden costs and conveyancing in England and Wales, and also sets out property development issues to consider. Each chapter concludes with a summary of top tips. There is a sister book written by this author: The Expert's Guide to Selling a House in the UK: helping you to sell well. An effort has been made not to duplicate the information in each book.

Dr Judith P Summer is a property finder and development consultant in London and founded Simma Properties (see http://www.simmaproperties.co.uk). She has a decade of experience in investing in the property market of a prime residential area of central London. She learnt how to spot and buy a bargain for her own portfolio, and how to develop, rent and sell those properties, and so has published a series of books to help others to do the same. She is also a non-practising solicitor with a Cambridge degree in law, a PhD in law and an award-winning law book, but don't let that put you off from reading her books on property investment! She tweets regularly about UK property developments (@simmaproperties) and also writes a blog which can be accessed via her website. She was interviewed as a property expert by Sky TV and you can watch her property videos via her YouTube Channel (Judith Summer at Simma Properties).
