Why walruses, you ask? Most people love cute penguins and polar bears. Laura Jaeger wondered why walruses didn't get more attention. So she started painting them, sunning on rocks in the sea, bellowing and diving, and snuggling with their herd. She loved their mustached faces, long white tusks, and blubbery bodies. One day, she painted a bright red bow on one of their heads. And suddenly, the story, "Alexandra and the Red Bow," came to life. When she's not painting walruses, Laura volunteers at Creative Growth, an art center for disabled adults in Oakland, Ca. It was there that she first was inspired to draw and paint.
