This book will give you a fresh new perspective of yourself. "There are so many people who have never been locked up but maybe institutionalized and don't even know it!" At a young age Mike Mathis, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, struggled with knowing his value and self-worth, which led to him being severely bullied, having low self-esteem, emotionally numb, and a stuttering disorder. As Mike grew into young adulthood, due to his desire to fit in, he started hanging out with the wrong crowd and making many poor decisions. As a result, at the age of 20, Mike was incarcerated in Mississippi for eight years on a plantation. On his third night in jail, Mike saw something that changed his life forever. As a result, Mike solidified his relationship with Christ and discovered his new perspective, forcing him to focus on his purpose: Inspire, Educate, and empower. After being released from prison in 2009, Mike returned to Cleveland on a mission. He has helped thousands of people to become mentally, emotionally, and financially free from the bondage of low self-esteem. "Freedom is a choice which is derived from the value within."

Mike Mathis was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio where he attended both Rhodes High School and John F. Kennedy High School. Growing up, he felt a void and struggled to understand his purpose in life. For this reason, he struggled with his identity. Lack of identity caused him to hide behind a mask and build a facade to gain acceptance from peers. This facade drew him to the streets and landed him in a Mississippi jail, not knowing that God had a plan all along. At age 20, Mike was sentenced to eight years in prison in the state of Mississippi. On his third day of incarceration, Mike saw something that changed his life forever and he immediately surrendered his life to Christ. After Mike was released from prison in 2009, he headed back to Cleveland, Ohio with a mission to help people discover and develop their true identities even in the midst of their situation. His drive compelled him to start a movement called "I'm Not Famous, But I Made It," which subsequently led him to write this book. Mike speaks at different high schools, colleges, prisons and to people in the community about his life, sharing the important lessons and solutions that he's learned. Mike is passionate about showing individuals how they can correct the course of their lives after making bad decisions or, more importantly, avoid them altogether. His message applies not only to those who have been physically locked up, but also to those who have been mentally, emotionally, or financially locked up by their situations.
