Dr. Kavitha N Krishnan, has been an occupational therapist for 21 years with extensive experience in pediatrics. She has guest lectured at University of Illinois Chicago and has served as adjunct faculty at Winston-Salem State University. She has also collaborated in clinical research, presented a short course at the AOTA and presented several poster presentations at the Annual Occupational Therapy Summit of Scholars. She received her Diploma in Occupational Therapy from Nanyang Polytechnic (Singapore) and her Bachelors with Honors from University of Teeside (UK). She completed her post-professional Masters in Health Rehabilitation from University of Pittsburgh (USA) and she completed her post-professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at the University Of Illinois-Chicago (USA). Dr. Krishnan’s doctoral project is entitled: Developing an Interactive Learning Module for Treating a Child with Sensory Issues and a Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Dr. Krishnan’s graduate studies focused on sensory integration theory, autism and evidence based practice. She has completed two Maternal and Child Health fellowships in Interdisciplinary Leadership Education in Neurodevelopment and Related Disabilities with a focus in autism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Illinois-Chicago. Dr. Krishnan completed an advanced clinical specialization at the Centro Ann Sullivan Del Peru, in Lima, and an intensive sensory integration practicum at Camp Avanti. Dr. Krishnan also earned a Beatrice D Wade award for Clinical Education (UIC) in 2011. Dr. Krishnan’s work experience began with the Ministry of Health and the National Council of Social Services in Singapore. After moving to the United States to pursue her graduate studies, Dr. Krishnan worked for the State of Illinois as a specialist pediatric occupational therapist and she is now the occupational therapy supervisor for the North Carolina State Health and Human Services department.
