Inhaltsangabe

This book has been growing over the years out of several resources. Firstly, the courses in number theory and modern algebra I had occasionally been teaching at UNC Charlotte. Secondly, my interest to invent mathematical problems for competitions, and invent and pose problems for individual work with gifted students. After being forced to retire about two years ago because of health reasons, I did continue to occupy myself with these topics, and I learned more substantially from the work of Gauss on quadratic reciprocity and on the construction of Fermat polygons. Too, I did take up numerical computation with the computer language of Dr. Racket, which is based on Lisp and freely available on the internet.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Franz Rothe is a distinguished mathematician and accomplished musician whose life bridges the realms of science and art. Educated in Germany and Switzerland, he earned his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Tübingen and later became a professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Alongside his academic career, Rothe pursued classical music, recording three CDs with pianist Thomas Turner. In his book From My Past Life: Mostly Flute Music and Math Writing, Rothe offers an intimate blend of autobiography, mathematical reflections, and artistic insights. Now living between the U.S. and Germany, he continues to write with depth and clarity, revealing how mathematics and music can enrich each other-and our understanding of life itself.
