Charlie Swearingen first conceived the dream of becoming a flight clinician while he was still in paramedic school. He decided that instead of blithely waiting for a position to become available, he would begin arming himself with the professional achievements that would eventually earn him a spot on a revered, level 1 helicopter in Mississippi. He credits passing the FP-C (certified flight paramedic exam) as the single factor that made him stand out as only a 2 year medic when he first applied for a flight clinician position. Since then, he has been published in several peer reviewed journals, reviewed 2 textbooks, practiced as a flight paramedic during Hurricane Katrina, earned a position as a leading educator with a national air medical service, competed at the 2009 METI Cup, and is currently working on a PhD in physiology. Additionally, Charlie is a bilateral amputee and a current member on the US Men's National Sitting Volleyball team. While he loves competing internationally, he loves to teach even more. He enjoys marrying his passion for critical care and his love for educating. He currently lives in Denver with his wife, Marge.
