The mines in general made marked improvements. The living conditions in many Of the coal camps received attention and many new dwelling-houses, bath-houses and reading-rooms were erected. Fences were put up around the houses and a plentiful supply of water furnished to encourage gardening and wholesome amuse ments for the entertainment of Old and young were provided. In fact, there is an active movement in the camps Of some Of the coal companies to create better living conditions.
