MIT helped shape modern warfare through wartime research in aerodynamics, missiles, and electronics.

This edition highlights how MIT’s laboratories and engineers tackled urgent defense problems, from aircraft dynamics to smart weapons. It covers the transformation of research into practical tools, training, and peacetime applications that followed the war.

• How flutter and aircraft dynamics research evolved into broader understanding of aircraft structures.
• Development and testing of guided missiles like AZON and FELIX, with real-world combat and production implications.
• Plans for a supersonic wind tunnel to push aeronautical research beyond prewar capabilities.
• Collaboration between MIT, government panels, and industry to turn scientific work into national defense capabilities.

Ideal for readers of military and science history who want a clear view of how a university and its researchers helped modernize wartime technology.
