Excerpt from Austria: It Literary, Scientific, and Medical Institutions, With Notes Upon the Present State of Science, and a Guide to the Hospitals and Sanatory Establishment of Vienna
For the early history of the School of Medicine I have chiefly consulted the work of Hecker, Geschichte der neueren Heilkunde. Zwez'tes Buck. Die Wiener Schule, 1839 and also the writings of Professors Rosas and Beer. To inform myself upon the laws that regulate the medical constitution of Austria, I have carefully perused the Darstellung der Medicinal V erfassung in den K. K. Staaten Oesterrez'chs von J. J. Knalz, visiting, at the same time, those different grades and conditions of the profession, and becoming personally acquainted with those sanatory enact ments to which he refers and I have also examined the comparison between the French and German schools, lately published by Dr. C. A. Wunder lich, W ien and Paris. Ein Beitrag znr Gescnz'chte and Beurtheilnng der gegenwiirtigen Heilkunde in Deutschland and Frankreich.
