Excerpt from Washington University Studies, Vol. 4: Published Quarterly; July, 1916-April, 1917
In the fall of 1915, sixteen blacksnakes and two coach-whip snakes (zamenis flagellum) were secured from St. Petersburg, Florida. These were carefully dissected by the writer. They became greatly emaciated by midwinter and lost most of their Iat, which was rather an advantage in dissection, particularly of the circulatory system. Their viscera contained many trematode and cestode parasites.
The work which forms the basis of the present paper was done in the zoological laboratory of Washington University, St. Louis, under the direction of Professor J. F. Abbott.
