The Hyphen is used to connect the parts of a compound word; as, Jill-souls'-day. When placed at the end of a line, the hyphen shows that one or more syllables of a word are carried forward to the next line. It is also used Where a word is divided into syllables; as, flzf-fl-cuz-ty.
