Inhaltsangabe

For the timid, young Prince Maxin, his fourteenth birthday is supposed to be the day he finally becomes a man. As second in line to the throne behind his elder brother, Belthran, he never dreamed of ruling the kingdom. But as part of his birthday celebration, he is obligated to hand-pick his own ten-man army to command. Maxin sees this as an opportunity to prove to his family and the kingdom of Ar'Gurd the he has what it takes to be a warrior, like his brother, and a leader, like his father.

During Maxin's quest for new recruits, the capital city of Carbaya is attacked by pirates from the far reaches of the south-western shores. But unlike the pirates of yesteryear, who failed to sack the city in the past, this new band of pirates are tactically trained, bloodthirsty, and much more likely to succeed.

As Maxin's once tropical and carefree kingdom faces a threat like never before, Maxin goes against his parents' orders and flees the city in search of new recruits. He leaves behind his luxurious life within the city gates and journeys out into the unknown Ar'Gurdian kingdom. Maxin plans a journey to Paran-Dun, the sister city of Carbaya, and with his brother's help, he escapes the city and strikes out into the perilous wilderness. As he makes his way through mystical woodlands and cavernous canyons, he seeks anyone who can bring aid back to the city before it's overrun.

Maxin faces dangers of great magnitude from ravenous beasts to untrustworthy strangers, and if Maxin fails to find the help he needs, the fate of his kingdom and all those he holds dear, will suffer a once unimaginable fate at the hands of violent cutthroats.
