Jiyoon Yoon is Associate Professor of Science Education and Special Assistant to Dean for Global Initiatives at the University of Texas at Arlington. She received her Ph.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington where she majored in Science Education and Curriculum and Instruction. Her minors are Instructional Systems Technology and Studies of Public Environmental Affairs. Dr. Yoon has participated in extensive science methods research studies and instructional technology projects for pre- and in-service science teachers. She has also established and directed international programs to exchange teaching methods and culture between America and Korea. Dr. Yoon teaches science education methods and research methods courses and is working on nationally-funded research studies. Her research focuses on establishing rich science teaching and learning environments with the aid of technology within a global society.
Peggy Semingson is an associate professor of Curriculum and Instruction at The University of Texas at Arlington where she teaches courses in Literacy Studies. She has been at UTA since 2008 where she began teaching in the online literacy Master’s of Education program and in the preservice teacher educator preparation program. She has taught entirely online since 2013. She received her M.Ed. in Reading Education from Texas State University, San Marcos in 2004 and her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Language and Literacy Studies from The University of Texas at Austin in 2008. Her research interests include digital pedagogies, media-based learning, online learning, and literacy teacher education. Current research studies examine the ways that we can use digital pedagogies to engage preservice and inservice teachers to most effectively help them to teach literacy in their current and future classroom contexts. She has won two awards related to distance learning including the 2013 USDLA Best Practices Platinum Award for Excellence in Distance Learning Teaching In 2013 Dr. Semingson was the recipient of the prestigious UT System Regent’s Outstanding Teaching Award.
