This book lets you learn to speak Spanish without needing to attend school or pay for private classes. Based on my years owning and running a Spanish immersion school in Veracruz, Mexico, I’ve developed a technique that lets any native speaker serve as your private tutor. Self-study doesn’t help you with pronunciation and doesn’t allow you to carry on conversations, but using this approach, you get that help. The native speaker needs no training. I’ve included all the instructions and explanations they need to do the material with you. I’ve included these in both English and Spanish so that you, too, know exactly what’s going on. As you work through the book, you can have a variety of native speakers help you. The book supplies the continuity of your lessons. The lessons you’ll be working through are ones I prepared for my beginning students. In an immersion school, there is never enough time, and so none of my chapters contain filler materials found in textbooks; there’s nothing to slow you down. But everything is there that you need to move forward as fast as you can. The book has lots and lots of practice. Immediately after the exercises are the answers. This makes the book easier to use. You don’t have to flip to the end of the chapter or to an appendix to find an answer section (it’s a format that makes this book very user-friendly on e-readers, tablets, and smartphones). Spanish is a happy language, and learning it with a helper is pure fun.
