In this age of hyper-sensitive political correctness, “The Sit Down” pokes an irreverent finger in the eye of almost everything imaginable as it takes the reader on a roller coaster romp through a slice of New York City not experienced by tourists, or even most lifelong residents. This dark comedy moves at a rapid pace as an aging Mafia street boss of New York’s least respected and poorest crew plans a “sit down” meeting with his crime family’s leader that he hopes will change his status within the mob forever. Standing in the way of the hapless gangster, Augusto “Augie The Whale” Palermo, getting what he wants after a lifetime of failed capers are a variety of bizarre characters, including a CIA agent who everyone thinks is a greeting card salesman, a paranoid police captain, a cop who would rather be an interior decorator, a functional imbecile who becomes a psychiatrist after responding to an ad on a matchbook cover, the KGB, a Chinese restaurateur who is Russian by birth but is surgically altered to become Asian and, of course, Mister Spot, a dog with only three legs.
