Inner Earth- Owen R. Leonard The approaching canoes held no promise of friendship. Ti-Gris explained that from the direction they sailed they had to be the Moniwasheq who raided their village at times. As the time of Gathering grew near they usually attempted these attacks, taking advantage of the harvest of plenty. The Chippenaw all moved as one to the defense of their village. They had practiced routines during time of peace and all knew their positions and tasks. Cesar and Althea felt out of place. They had only now begun to train with the defenders and felt like they were just standing around helpless. “You can join those who are herding the three horns to the safety of the forest.” Ti-Gris was earnest. This was a vital duty and one not passed off to just anyone. They had already showed they had an affinity for the beasts once Topper had adopted them. The taciturn animals could turn reluctant and intractable if not handled with an understanding hand. The couple ran to the pens and joined the keepers of the animals as they herded and guided them through the corral toward the gates. Here they were halted to wait until the garden fields had been fired. The black smoke would obscure their activity from the Moniwasheq and keep them from seeing where the triceratops had been taken. This was a routine process in the village’s defense. Once the sky was scarred with the tarry black billows the group was in motion. As the herd moved forward their training took control once they smelled the smoke and they broke into a slow gallop as they headed for the ingrained destination. Cesar glanced about and saw that some of the people were having a hard time keeping up. He waved an arm in the air, getting the others’ attention after which he caught Topper’s rear right horn and used it to swing up onto the animal’s back, just behind the frill. He reached down and caught Althea around her supple waist and lifted her up beside him. She laughed as she wrapped her arms about his neck and there was a flush of exhilaration to her face. She screamed a war cry exhilarating and visceral. Topper did not mind the burden of the people. Indeed the heifer had carried weights much heavier. The couple was not too much to bear. As they glanced about they watched the others one by one follow his lead. Althea turned to Cesar and said, “You know…” “You thinking cavalry?” “Exactly!” Robert Burroughs and Bernadette Roth were catapulted to AhkiBindGee: Inner Earth, the strange world within a world that existed beneath the Earth's Crust. To find their way back from this savage, prehistoric land, the couple find they aren't the only surface dwellers on the island of Minishiq. Inner Earth is unlike anything any of them ever knew. Here are savage sabre-toothed tigers, carnivorous dinosaurs, horrors from beyond. Here the horizon curves back on itself and the sun hangs at perpetual noon. These castaways must fight for survival in a land of ancient forces where time stands still.
