Thirty days from home, Billy Coker is no longer sure what home means.
After eleven brutal months in Vietnam, Billy has learned to survive with cynicism, dark humor, and a St. Sebastian medal he can’t quite bring himself to take off. It was given to him years ago by Bonnie Jo Parker—the girl who believed in him long before he understood what that meant.
Now Billy has one month left in-country. One month to stay alive.
But surviving Vietnam may be easier than surviving what comes after.
Back home in Mississippi, the war follows Billy into friendships he no longer understands, memories he cannot escape, and a future that feels empty of purpose. To build a life worth living, he must confront what combat has taken from him—and reconsider the girl he once left behind.
By turns harrowing, heartfelt, and sharply funny, Raeford’s MVP is a Vietnam-era historical novel about brotherhood, trauma, homecoming, and the redemptive power of love.
Because sometimes the hardest battle begins after the soldier comes home.

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Billy Coker, a 19-year-old army infantry squad leader, is in the final 30 days of his tour of duty in Vietnam when he realizes he must find a way to get past the horrors of war and find his future. Although his predicament was self-created by his high school obsession with the opposite sex, he can remember but one meaningful relationship from those years. That was with an over-weight girl he mostly shunned. Bonnie Jo Parker always said he was too cynical when he called their classmates egotistical jerks. If only she could see him now. He'd perfected cynicism in Nam. It was his forte, and he'd raised it to its highest form. A love story, a war story, a story of hope and redemption, Raeford's MVP is by turns deadly serious and side-splittingly funny throughout. Award-winning author Rick DeStefanis introduces readers to the world of a combat veteran who escapes death only to face the futureless void of post-traumatic stress and psychological impotence. His only hope is to find someone special he lost along the way. Buy this book now and discover why author Rick DeStefanis has won four literary awards for his Vietnam War Series.
