A warm, witty trip back to forgotten America! Christmas 1959, when only the strongest kids survived... It’s Christmas1959, and ten year-old Trudy McFarlan has a lot on her plate; scrutinizing the Sears Catalog for gyp-free toys, riding roughshod over her troglodyte siblings, skirmishes with a diabolical teacher, battles with an orangutan babysitter and appeasing her best friend by pulling the prank of the century. And she has to do it all without incurring the dreaded consequence—grounded for the holidays! Cigarette-smoking toys, radioactive chemistry sets, sledding wars, Santa pins and holiday corsages—this is the Christmas of 1959. And this is where childhood still lives! “An exceptionally clever and entertaining read anytime of the year, 'My Childhood Christmas' is a timeless novel that showcases author Rootie Simms flair for deftly crafted stories that engage the reader's attention from beginning to end. Very highly recommended...” –Midwest Book Review

Rootie began her writing career when she was ten years old with her first novel: Naughty Notes. The book had lurid scenes of little girls doing the can-can and flashing their white cotton underpants at little boys who yelled, "Woo! Woo!" She was rewarded for this unsettling exposé of the fourth grade with (what would soon become) a permanent chair in the principal's office.
Her next honorarium came in high school when she rewrote the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In her version, Goldie's food theft was rationalized by her fondness for marijuana. She was rewarded for this insight into Goldie's baffling character trait with a three-day suspension so she could, "Think about what you did!"
As an adult, she's the author of the Truly Julie private eye series, starting with Wilder In The Everglades. She's also the author of the mid-century American comedy fictions, My Childhood Christmas, and The Last Great Halloween, with the next holiday novel to be released in 2016.
She also wrote the original screenplay for the movie, My Fair Lidy (not a lady!) which was produced in 2012 by Sand Woman productions. The movie script was inspired by her years as a stand up comedienne playing Florida gay bars as the first Female-Since-Birth Drag Queen.
In addition to the novels and movie script, Rootie is the author of 6 plays including the popular; Christmas Matzo at the Doublewide Diner, Shameless Women, and It's All in Your Mind. All of the plays were well received by the dozen or so people who actually came to see them.
Personal note from the author: Pleas buy my books as I have a beer and trans-fat deficiency that requires daily maintenance and I need the money. My stretchy pants thank you.

"My Childhood Christmas is a fun read. If you've ever watched the classic movie A Christmas Story and enjoyed it, then this book will be right up your alley. It's written from the point of view of ten year old Trudy and really captures the spirit of the times; it reminds the reader of simpler more innocent times when Christmas was, without doubt, the most wonderful time of the year...4 STARS!" --Christian Review Magazine
"My Childhood Christmas is one of those rare books that can be enjoyed by anyone aged nine to ninety. As a professional who reads books for a living, it was pure bliss to get away from sex and violence and sink into a joyful novel of Christmas comedy!"--Ken Eulo, Bestselling author and Paramount Studios Creative Consultant
