Alan Ravenscroft has had a distinctly odd education, having never been to university. It was provided by his career in television working across genres including the Arts, News and Current Affairs, Exploration, Finance, Cooking, Travel, Adult Education and Music. Over his fifty years in the TV industry Alan has worked with characters as diverse as Lemmy, Nelson Mandela, Ian Paisley, Robert Redford, Terry-Thomas and Blondie. He is also the brother of the late DJ and sometimes National Treasure John Peel. In this candid memoire he tells us of the encounters with the famous and infamous he has had as his “education” unfolded. As he observes, “however many Hollywood thresholds you cross or ‘Access All Areas’ passes you gather round your neck, you still remain at best – “ALMOST FAMOUS”.
