Remember Pathmaker I’s analogy of a jigsaw puzzle? Suppose you are working a puzzle and come across two pieces that appear to have identical shapes. They both seem to fit into a particular portion of the puzzle. But logic tells you that only one of them will work. How can you decide which piece belongs in that part of the puzzle? One important way would be to observe the colors and patterns of the various pieces. For instance, if one piece is blue and the other is red, and you are working on a portion of sky, then blue would be the likely choice. You see, shape is only part of the matching process—an important part, to be sure, and probably the first thing you’d look at. But color and pattern also play a significant role. In a similar way, as a worker, you need to consider more than just the “shape” of your contribution. The “color” and “pattern” of your personality and operating style also come into play.
