Jason Kamimura is a Los Angeles based photographer, artist, and musician. Jason became involved with the Los Angeles burlesque scene in 2008 when he was invited by his long time friend and burlesque producer, Chris Beyond to attend the Monday Night Tease. Fast forward 4 years and many adventures later and Jason had become close friends with many of the performers and had even started performing boylesque in a few shows under the stage name, Harry Mirkin. On April 13th, 2012 Jason acquired his first professional camera as a birthday gift from his mother and immediately began taking pictures of what he had grown to love, the art of burlesque and more importantly the people involved with the burlesque scene. Jason had studied art in school and even got a degree in fine art with an emphasis in sculpture; but after graduating did little with it for many years. He had originally wanted to do special effects makeup; but after having no success finding work in that field took up working as a videographer and video editor then later an audio visual technician. It wasn't until he started taking photographs that he realized the art form he really had a passion for.Prior to getting involved with burlesque, Jason had been a long time admirer of Bettie Page and vintage pinup so a month after getting his camera he scheduled his first pinup photo shoot with his friend, Malaika Millions. From that point on photography and to be more precise burlesque and pinup photography became a passion. After having some success in publishing his work in various Pinup Magazines, Jason decided he wanted to create a pinup magazine of his own, that focused on the kind of photography and models that he was intersted in seeing. Thus was born, “Pinup Alternative”.As the name implies, "Pinup Alternative" is an alternative to other pinup magazines on the market. It's intent is to promote talented photographers, models, and artists in a creative and supportive way. Jason realized that there were tons of talented artists that were not getting the proper exposure they deserved. Pinup Alternative hopes to showcase artists such as these in addition to innovative work from around the world.
