John and Laurie Gray have created and administered over assessment centers and promotional processes for Public Safety Testing since 2011. They have worked with over 600 public safety candidates. These processes were for police departments, sheriff’s offices, and fire departments for the positions of first level supervisors, mid-managers and command. Their process is rarely appealed and 97% of the candidates have rated the testing process as fair and representative. John and Laurie Gray have conducted candidate workshops for over 550 attendees that included lecture, role-playing, videos, discussion and questions. The workshops continue to receive very high marks from the candidates. John Gray served in the law enforcement profession for 32 years for cities, counties and a federal agency, including 12 years as a Police Chief for two cities in Western Washington. He has written promotional tests, been an assessor many times and has taught the topic of selection and promotion for the Northwestern University’s national command school, the “School of Police Staff and Command.” He has attended the IACP workshop on conducting assessment centers. John Gray has a Master of Education degree from Western Washington University; a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from San Diego State University, is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, the Northwest Law Enforcement Executive Command College and FBI LEEDS program; the International Association of Police Chief’s Leadership of Police Organizations; and holds an Executive Certificate from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. He continues to publish articles on leadership and management topics in Police Chief Magazine, the FBI Bulletin, Law & Order Magazine, and Public Manager Magazine. He is the author of a book, “The Boss’s Hiring Interview” that is available at Amazon.com Laurie Gray is a career educator with over 30 years of teaching experience. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Washington and was a certified teacher for primary grades in Washington State. She has worked in a variety of educational settings including public schools, the National Park Service, for a public utility, a beach ranger program, and a children’s museum.
