Vom Verlag:

A complete and concise look at the malefactors, rogues and highwaymen who pursued their evil and wanton calling by assaulting and depriving the fair citizens of England of their most precious and prized possessions by use of the most reprehensible of methods... Highway Robbery! This book is mainly concerned with the Seventh Commandment, and its application to the protection of property in eighteenth century England during a period when highway robbery was, for many, the preferred way to steal. The work examines the extent of highway robbery in eighteenth century England and the various ways in which highwaymen operated. An essential basic account of the English eighteenth century legal system with regard to the courts and policing is provided in order to establish a point of reference as well as to illustrate the importance and significance of the receiver of stolen property upon whom the success of most thieves, even today, remains dependent.

Über den Autor:

Tony grew up with parents who were in the antique trade, and as a lad he loved the myths and legends of highwaymen, pirates, vagabonds and other ne’er-do-wells! By the age of 15 Tony had developed a life-long curiosity about the objects and stories from the Georgian and Victorian eras. To Tony, the real ‘treasure’ within a piece is found by understanding its place in history as well as its provenance. Over his career, Tony has worked in a myriad of positions in the antique and education worlds and now provides appraisal and acquisition services to clients. Rogues of the Road expands on Tony’s Master’s thesis Robbery with Dialogue. ‘Rogues’ explores the technological, social, and political factors that resulted in the rise of Highway Robbery in 18th and 19th Century England. Watch for Tony on reruns of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's (CBC's) Canadian Antiques Roadshow. You can find him online at
