The Gift of Ethics: A Story for Discovering Lasting Significance in Your Daily Work - Hardcover

Inhaltsangabe

Structured on the Beatitudes, The Gift of Ethics is a short, readable introduction to the major ideas in Christian ethics. Bechtel engages the reader through stories to draw out reflection on the good life. ""Bechtel gently and persuasively draws newcomers to the field of Christian ethics into an understanding of Christian identity and practice, through personal, scriptural, and cinematic stories, along with a small dose of philosophical background and prompts for discussion. In a conversational style, he shows students and church groups how to start to receive and embody a Beatitudes-based life in Christ. The Gift of Ethics is introductory, substantive, and accessible--a rare gift indeed."" --Margaret B. Adam, St. Stephen's House, University of Oxford, UK ""Trevor Bechtel doesn't just tell us that stories are foundational for ethical thinking and living, he shows us. In so doing, he shares with us not only the sharp clarity of his thought, but also the messy reality of his life. By the end, he hasn't demanded authority for his position but by cultivating a collaborative relationship with his readers he's earned it."" --Megan M. Ramer, Chicago Community Mennonite Church, Illinois Trevor George Hunsberger Bechtel is Associate Professor of Religion at Bluffton University. An ordained Mennonite theologian, he also serves as Creative Director of the Anabaptist Bestiary Project (anabaptistbestiaryproject.com).
