For author David P. Cresap, writing poetry began by accident, or rather, it was a guided experience, since he truly believes almost nothing happens by accident. In The Collection, he shares a volume of poetry revolving around the trials and experiences of his life. Cresap aims to teach and provide understanding in order to ease the burdens caused by some of life's uncomfortable situations. The included poems were written as a result of thoughts, situations, and emotions Cresap has personally experienced. Some came in dreams or spiritual lessons regarding the foundations and principals in the teachings of God. Others grew out of the author's love of the written word-playing with words, sounds, patterns, and silliness. Universal in nature, the works in this anthology solidify the purpose, goals, understanding, and meaning of one's life on earth. Cresap shares this collection to help others understand their unique situation and apply the teachings relayed in the poems to enhance their own lives.

The Realm of Why
A Misunderstanding
Who would think?
A hasty tongue, perhaps,
An undrawn thought?
It builds, and grown
Becomes, at last,
A misunderstanding.
Now sorrow breeds
And cannot mend,
For the tongue has slipped;
Now the mind runs rampant.
Each is wrong,
Yet,
Each is right,
But all is lost,
Perhaps
The dye is cast.

A Zero
To be a naught
In other's thought,
It rends the soul.
To be decried
When others lied,
Could be the role.
To be dismissed
And not be missed,
Is that the goal?
Then alone I'll strive
And be alive,
Thus remain whole.
From the Collection "The Realm of Why" by David P Cresap
An Apology
A common phrase,
I apologize.
It requests forgiveness
Not always given,
As pride sometimes
Restrains the heart.
"For I am right."
It tells itself.
But why,
Could it be
Something quite wrong,
Or only a misunderstanding?
Perhaps the lack of tact,
Or just perception.
The reasons might
Remain unknown
For all who be
Concerned.
Yet the request remains,
I apologize.

Being Shy
It hurts to be shy,
To bow your head
And look away.
I don't know why.
It hurts to think.
I'm alone
And sad.
I don't know why.
I hurts, I know,
I feel ashamed.
I think
That's why.
From the Collection "The Realm of Why" by David P Cresap
Comfort
My Heart needs the
Freedom, of
Love.
My Mind wants the
Boundaries, of
Love.
How is it the
Two, can
Be so
Comforting?
From the Collection "The Realm of Why" by David P Cresap
Farewell / Bitterness
Fond farewells
And sweet partings
Are so often turned
For lack of words.
Ah well, when spent,
The words turn short
And true meanings
Are hidden in the sarcasm,
Which in turn hides
The feelings unexpressed
For fear of
Losing face,
And so,
Bitterness.
From the Collection "The Realm of Why" by David P Cresap
Friendship
As a world begins
Seemingly without
Direction or meaning,
It grows, develops
And expands.
It endures through
All trials of sorrow
And hardship
To find happiness.
For through this act,
It lives.
It discovers direction,
And sees meaning,
As there is purpose
For being,
And so it is
With friendship.
From the Collection "The Realm of Why" by David P Cresap
Gratitude
I can only express
What I feel.
I can only share
As much as will
Be received.
I can only give
That which is...
