Written by a high school Technology Education teacher, it explains the journey of one teacher to build a working prototype of an Electric vehicle. From concept to finished project, the author tells an engaging story about building a team of ordinary students with outstanding skills who research, design, fund and build a one-seater Electric Vehicle they call "Endurance" that exceeds 1100 MPGe. Edwin David Fernandes is a 26-year Technology Education teacher at Tiverton High School, Tiverton, Rhode Island. Formerly a Chrysler mechanic and factory worker, he re-educated and began a new career as a teacher at age 33. He then began a quest to rebuild his aging Industrial Arts Department of his Alma Mater to the new Department of Technology Education. He introduced a new exploratory program for grade 9, then a series of technical and non-technical classes to support the construction trades and engineering, such as Carpentry, Electronics, Computer Technology, Architecture and Principles of Engineering. Edwin also built a log home, is a cancer survivor and a distance runner, having completed 47 marathons and ultra-marathons since 1979.
