Little Women is a novel by American author Louisa May Alcott, originally published in 1868. The story follows the lives of four sisters—Amy March, Beth, Jo, and Meg - chronicling their passage to womanhood. The novel is based on the author and her three sisters. The original volume of Little Women was very successful and was quickly followed up by a second work, Good Wives. The two books were issued in 1880 in a single work entitled Little Women. Alcott also wrote two sequels : Little Men (1871) and Jo's Boys (1886).
