Inhaltsangabe

Imagine becoming a group of people who focus their lives on being community, fostering forgiveness, reflecting on their vocations in light of God’s love for us declared in our Baptism, rooting themselves in God’s Word, cultivating a thankful heart, sharing Christ’s grace at table, and being people sent into the world to be salt and light. That’s the shape of our communal worship, our collective practice of being who we are, the body of Christ. And that’s the shape of this prayer book as well. It is an attempt to move these seven central things of worship out into the rest of the world, stretching Sunday out into the whole week. Read, Reflect, Pray is a riff off of Luther’s prayer practice of meditatio, tentatio, oratio. With this prayer book you will read portions of scripture and selections from Christian authors and figures, reflect on Luther’s Small Catechism and weekly questions to ground yourself in those things that are central to the faith, and be launched into prayer with the help of those readings and reflections, as well as historical prayers of the Church.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Pastor Chris currently serves as the Pastor of St. Stephen Lutheran in South Plainfield New Jersey. He struggled with finding a good resource for prayer, both for himself and for his lay folk. Most stuff was either too trite or had bad theology. Additionally, none of the good stuff was centrally located. Out of this search came Read, Reflect, Pray. In addition to this prayer book he wrote a book on the 22nd chapter of Genesis entitled “An Uncomfortable Bit of Rope.”
