Dr. Jeffrey S. Shaw, PhD, is a licensed psychologist in New York and has been in private practice for the past twenty-one years in Midtown Manhattan. His approach to therapy has involved both the use of cognitive/behavioral therapy, and modern psychoanalysis. In cognitive therapy, people are taught to change their thoughts, which can change their feelings far more quickly than in traditional therapy. In modern psychoanalysis, the person being worked with lies down during therapy, but the therapist is directive and supportive, unlike classical psychoanalysis where the therapist is primarily a "blank slate" with very little, if any, interaction. Modern psychoanalysis has been shown to be far more efficient in bringing about change efficiently than traditional psychoanalysis. Dr. Shaw has been successful in helping about 90 percent of the people who come to him for help. He treats individuals and couples for a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship and work issues, phobias, panic attacks, and even some psychotic issues such as paranoia and schizophrenia.
