What is the work of the humanities in a posthuman world? The collection of essays in this volume constitutes a response to this pressing question. This book brings together final papers from the Loyola University New Orleans seminar English A487: Posthumanism from Fall 2012. Essays were voluntarily submitted for inclusion and cover a range of topics emerging from a comparative media study of print novels, film, and videogames concerned with biological and mechanical augmentations. Arranged alphabetically, the chapters herein address the posthuman as it pertains to philosophy and ethics (1, 3, 7, 11), environmentalism and sustainability (8, 10), embodiment (2, 4), gender, sexuality, and otherness (5, 6, 9), and much more. Each essay is strong individually, but appearing together—in dialog with one another—they demonstrate the variety, depth, vitality, and even urgency of a conversation carried out over the course of a semester.
