After Shave - Softcover

In all the while I have been writing, the poem After Shave is the very first time I have really gotten a hundred percent in touch with my emotions. It was a really difficult thing for me to do, and I believe it’s one of the best works I have at this stage in my growth as a writer. That’s the reason why I decided to make after shave the title for this book. It is the outcry of a young man who has to traverse this world on his own, without a father to act as a guide in this convoluted labyrinth that we call life. However the book in its entirety, addresses a plethora of topics. There is something for everyone. From love poems to inspirational poems; poems about the prison industrial complex; poems about the human experience; poems about race and justice; poems about nature; even poems that were inspired by friends and true life experiences. This book I would daresay comes close to the most holistic poem chapbook that you will come across as a reader.

I am a young man that wears many hats; a singer, M.C., poet, just to mention a few. I fell in love with music and other creative art forms at a tender age. As a kid I was part of the choir in my elementary school in Nigeria. That was my very first exposure to stage performance. However I did not start writing or creating any literal works until my junior year in secondary school (also in Nigeria), after a friend of mine introduced me to hip hop, and other western music. However, I fell in love with poetry during my freshman year in college (in the United States), in my introductory English class. Subsequently, I found out about spoken word poetry and after years of watching and studying some of my favorite poets I decided to start writing. My main influence and all-time favorite poet is Yusef Komunyakaa. This chapbook, After Shave is my very first book of poetry. It is for me the first step on my journey of creativity.
