In TIME MACHINE, Kevin Acers has written a collection whose central theme is the slippery nature of time. He explores this and other aspects of human experience with appearances by cats, goats, tadpoles, peacocks, chickens, blueberries, houseflies, edible light bulbs, Asian towns, volcanoes, dentures, dreams, and more. They illustrate in various, unexpected ways how the human mind is a portable time machine. Written in prose poetry, the pieces are sometimes quirky and surreal. Some are amusing--at times darkly amusing. Often they are poignant and reflective. Some shorter, some longer, the assortment reads as part fiction, part personal musings, part humanistic quandaries, part lyrical delight, part squawk, part silence.

Kevin Acers is a social worker whose background includes an earlier career in teaching language. In his twenties he spent four years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand, where he later returned to live and work. Since the mid-1990s he has been living in Oklahoma City working in public schools and, in more recent years, various social service agencies, including an HIV clinic, mental health services, and programs for refugees and the homeless. His diversity of experiences and facility with words coalesce in his writing. While he has been published in a few literary journals and chapbooks, this is Kevin Acers' first full-length collection.
