This 1947 report was "prepared at the instance and under the direction of Representative Wright Patman [1893-1976] of Texas by the Legislative Reference Service of the Library of Congress." In 1932, Patman introduced a bill that would have mandated the immediate payment of the bonus to World War I veterans. During the consideration of this bill the "Bonus Army" came to Washington. Patman was also a supporter of the New Deal legislation. The Patman Committee "followed the money," playing an important role in the early days of the Watergate scandal by investigating the hundred dollar bills found on the Watergate "plumbers," suspecting these could be directly linked to CREEP, the Committee to Re-Elect the President.
