Joseph, an 8-year-old Jewish boy in a small country school in upstate New York, has his classmates incited to violent action against him by a manipulative, anti-semitic second grade teacher. Drowning: July, 1943. Midway through WWII. On a very hot summer's day, Joseph, now ten, leads two rabbi's sons into an illegal, deserted lake for a swim.
