This book uses an algebraic point of view to study partial dynamical systems, including partial actions on several categories, namely sets, topological spaces, algebras, and C*-algebras. It considers C*-algebras from the perspective of partial actions and describes a graded algebra as a partial crossed product, tools to study it, and Fell bundles, looking at these bundles’ internal structure and ways they may be reassembled to form a C*-algebra, presenting the result that every separable Fell bundle with stable unit fiber algebra must arise as the semi-direct product bundle for a partial action of the base group on its unit fiber algebra. It studies reassembly through the concepts of cross-sectional algebras and amenability and presents applications to the study of C*-algebras, particularly those generated by semigroups of isometries and graph C*-algebras. It does not discuss partial actions of topological groups, focusing instead on discrete groups, and also omits the computation of k-theory groups of partial crossed product algebras, twisted partial actions and projective partial representations, detailed discussion of partial actions and inverse semigroups, and the relationship between partial actions and groupoids.
