Iwaniec’s lecture notes explain classical results on the distribution of zeros of the Riemann zeta function and introduce the result of Norman Levinson asserting that more than one third of the zeros lie on the critical line. After establishing the principal inequality of the Levinson-Conrey method, Iwaniec evaluates asymptotically the second power-moment of a relevant Dirichlet polynomial, which is built from derivatives of the zeta function and its mollifier.
