Biography Cherry Coombe. CHERRY COOMBE was born in 1956. Under a Labour government she was allowed to study while her own children were still at school. She graduated with a first-class degree in English in 2004 and now lectures in English. There is nothing remarkable about Cherry Coombe. She has not won the X Factor, found a cure for cancer or arrested the spread of palm oil plantations. She lives in the countryside. Her grown-up children come and go. Those who have read ORANGE ask about biography; people ask if Rosie and her friends live at a real address; if Rosie is Cherry. Perhaps the story has a stronger grasp if the idea has real legs. ORANGE is driven by anxiety, obsession, grief and shock. Its heroine is promiscuous and crap in bed. An admission of auto/biography is unlikely. Cherry is more likely to suggest that she is every character in the book.
