This is a touching story about a very trying time in Scottish history. The horrors of war leave scars that require a long time to fade. This is a very realistic look into the power of emotional scars and the great unlimited power of kindness. --Amazon
Unlike most other Regency romances, Ms. Kelly's characters aren't dukes or heiresses. In this novel, the hero is a Naval doctor who wants to set up his medical practice in a quiet town far from the sea. The heroine owns a tea shop and is trying to help the people of her fishing village. The story behind the newcomers to the village and the doctor's war time nightmares are not light reading. But the goodness of those who step forward to help makes the story lighten one's heart. The romance moves along slowly but worth the wait. --Amazon
This was extremely unexpected. This a heart felt, deeply rooted, intelligent, giving in sacrifice book. This book took such an unexpected turn it had me hook line and sinker from the beginning to the end. Tearful moments and gut wrenching moments. It not only depicted real historical emotionally deep circumstances, it reached down deep into unspoken challenges in history, and life. I swear it even touched on P.T.S.D. Misunderstanding and yes love, but in a unique way. I understand why this was nominated for the Whitney award --Amazon
