Chapter One

REFLECTIONS OF A STRUGGLE

ASPECTS OF WHO I WAS....

Reflections of Struggles

The weight of many,
The understanding of few;
To conquer those things,
You must change your point of view.

Struggles are issues of life,
Most are lessons to be learned—
But put your faith and trust in Him,
And be not worried or concerned.

Trials are obstacles that block your path,
And at times don't seem to cease;
Stepping back and letting go,
Will gain you insight and grant you peace.

Peace at mind holds such power,
Gives you the confidence you need;
Yet all you have to do,
Is within your heart—believe.

All battles belong to Him.
To be fought and won alike;
For He gave His only son,
As the ultimate sacrifice.

He tells us—
To lay our burdens down;
To wait patiently on Him,
For He will never leave us, cause He's always
around.

A Mother's Thoughts

I want to be stern—yet understanding,
To comfort and to heal;
To be open-minded—yet reasonable,
But to still keep it real.

Times have changed, don't you know—
From when we were kids, long—long—ago.

The discipline and guidance just isn't the same,
And messed-up parents and society are those to
blame.

You see, it's hard these days
To raise a child all alone;
Teaching him right from wrong,

And other things I was shown.
And methods of teaching that worked on me;
Just don't work on him I see.

Though often frustrated,
And consumed with such stress—
I thank God for my child,
For I am truly blessed.

The father just a donor, and now me a mother—
I'll be this way, it seems now and forever.

A Difference

There's a difference between
Becoming a mother and actually being one;
With the tears, sweat and many hats to wear,
And the endless road of hard work to be done.

There's sacrifices that have to be made,
For the well-being of another;
constant prayers and sleepless nights,
Just some requirements of being called "Mother".

Any female can become a mother,
By simply giving birth;
But being a mother reaps great rewards,
For what it's worth.

Confusion

Wishful thinking amongst the stars—
Staring and struggling,
To figure out who you are.

Wondering where you're going
Or where that path may lead you—
Hoping it's the right direction,
To open doors you never knew.

What is it that you want from life
And where is it that YOU want to be?

Confusion.... that's me!

What makes me different from any other chick—
That you've ever seemed to deal with?

I'm a woman.... Set on building a future,
not out to destroy one—
Willing to deal with trails, as they come—
not throwing in the towel, when all is said and
done.

To establish a special bond,
You'd love, cherish and protect—
not one in which
You'd ultimately regret.

One in which fond memories are made
Memories to call our own—
not the kind of relationship
Wherein you wished you'd left alone.

To be your strength
in the weakest of times—
not kicking you when you're down,
And always giving you a piece of my mind

Never blaming you
When things tend to go wrong—
To be by your side
When others are long gone.

I'm in this for the long run,
This is not a sprint—
I mean what I say
And have said what I meant.

That bone in your back,
Your spine.... that's me—
To support your every move
not cause you any disability.

Different is what I am

Daddy—vs.—Father

Fathering a child doesn't instantly make you a
daddy
It's a title to be earned,
consisting of lots of TLC and dedication,
And just like mommy—other things you'll learn.

Any fool could be a donor to the cause—
But being a daddy brings out a man,
There's no manuals or tools involved—
You just always do the best you can.

Being a father doesn't guarantee the right to be
called "Dad",
To be able to benefit from the seed you sowed—
When you could really care less
if it matures or even grows.

Absence is the distinct definition of an indignant
father,
That is absence in mind, body soul—
Support and nurturing
And that strong fatherly role.

Mother's Day Message

To all those woman, that do their best,
Their strength driven from above-
That's played a role in a child's life,
To guide, nurture, mold and love.

Whether they're your own,
niece, nephew, sibling, cousin or friend—
This Mother's Day is just for you,
To render a standing ovation....

Take a bow!!!

Picture This....

Imagine.... standing on my toes, with my back up
against the wall;
And obstacles staring me in the face—
Feeling the weight increasing on my shoulders,
As my knees begin to shake.

Can you see me ... As my eyes begin to tear,
And pressure begins to build—
As my arms grow heavy & legs start to buckle,
As the look of fear starts to appear?

With my toes now numb & the sensation about to
leave,
I realize stumbling is not a cause to give in—
See.... I refuse to let the devil
Count this as his win.

So—I roll back my shoulders & stick out my chest,
now there's an arch in my back as I loosen
And crack my neck.

Jogging in place, to get the feeling back in my toes—
Shaking my arms to loosen the load.

Stretching my arms, reaching towards the sky—
Insuring my head is held high,
For the God I serve, I'm about to edify

I Don't Understand

For no one seems to appreciate,
The things I always do—
To lend a helping hand,
Regardless of what I'm going through.

To help them out,
Of sticky situations—
And give relief,
From such frustration.

It's never good enough,
Whatever it is I may do;
And though compliments come a dime a dozen,
They're far and very few.

Then they're quick to judge,
And put those to shame;
Like I'm the reason,
For their problems and pain.

See some people, get away with murder,
Yet I've been convicted for just being me;
Then when I express my thoughts,
They blame it all on jealousy.

I mean—family is suppose to be there,
When no one else tends to be around;
Through...
