This book argues that the 'free' societies of Western Europe and North America are failing and that their dominant ideologies are self-contradictory. The author argues that society is founded on the exploitation of the many by the few. This is as true of so-called free societies as it was of ancient slave societies. Indeed, the author argues that exploitation is actually far worse in free societies than in slave societies because it feels more acutely oppressive in supposedly free societies. This is because exploitation is disguised, with the wealthy and powerful in free societies deceiving the people into believing that exploitation is the price of freedom.
