Coming from the small town of Ridgecrest doesn't prepare Josie for what she will face when she leaves to attend college. Returning to the area with her sister, Bernadette, Josie attempts to make her heart whole through opening a children's group home. Tanya, staying in Ridgecrest, meets an important person just passing through. Josie and Tanya's paths collide and Josie seeks Tanya's help in bringing their respective inhabitants of a children's group home and assisted living facility together for the benefit of both. The children's home brings Josie in contact with her future and her past loves and she'll have to make a choice to trust her heart again.

Merrie Giles has been a resident of Ridgecrest, California, situated in the Indian Wells Valley, since 1984. After coming to Ridgecrest directly from spending a year in Fairbanks, Alaska, she refers to herself as a "desert rat". She vows to stay in the desert as long as the sun does.
