When speaking to adults and to peers, divulging details about the loss of her mother, father, or sister, simply sprouted too many questions. Quite often, it sprouted nothing short of blatant disbelief. One story was bad enough, but when all three were combined it wasn't uncommon to be accused of making it all up. At five years old, while she was at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital while her sister was receiving treatment for leukemia, Misty discovered her voice within for the first time.
